Effectiveness of Actions:
I feel that my actions taken towards my game plan were/are very effective. The responses I have received from staff members have been beneficial and put to use. The models I created have been viewed by students and allowed them (students) to design quality projects.
What I have learned:
I have learned that taking time to have conversations with both staff members and students is a great teaching and learning tool. Conversations with students about technology has allowed me to see where the students' strengths are as well as their weaknesses. These conversations have also allowed me to see where I need to spend some time learning. This becomes the part of being a life long learner.
Still Learning:
As mentioned in my past blog posts, I still have learning to do with technology devices my students use. Last week I learned about a new video tool that I will look into as it seems like a tool that will help with the engagement level of my students.
Adjusting my plan:
The area I see I need to make adjustments in is designing more units that promote problem based learning. After reading this weeks assignments and viewing the video clips I have realized that problem based learning is truly the way to go as a teacher.

Hi Travis,
ReplyDeleteNow that you have it, you can begin to use student work as exemplars rather than your own. Students would rather see student work than teacher work. Do you agree?
I think it is an excellent idea to converse with your students to really find out where they are with technology. It gives you a clear starting point. Will you do this at the beginning of the school year next year so you can get started right away?
How do you find out about technology tools to research? Do you know if a resource on updated educational technology? I do not want my learning to stop after my Walden courses are over.
Hi Travis,
ReplyDeleteI also think it is an outstanding idea to discuss the students' opinions about technology and many other school related topics, such as the use of collaboration during instruction. I began doing this earlier this year as a result of Walden resources. The information I have received from the students has been valuable. For example, I wanted to finally try a Web Quest and the students gave me great insight as to what their experiences have been with them. As a result of their insightful feedback, I have a clearer picture of where to start with such a quest.
Hello Travis,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post. I found it very wonderful to see that your are using communication with students and schools staff as a means of reflection and research. There truly is no better way to find out what does and does not work than to get the thoughts of students. Their responses really do carry such weight.
As far as adjustments, I think that we will all see that adjustments will be constant. That is necessary and positive. Good luck with your progress.
Rebecca
Travis,
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that you have involved students in this process. That really gives you a viewpoint that will help you tailor what you are teaching based on their needs.
Good luck on the work you are going to do to create more problem based learning lessons. I agree that this type of instruction is very beneficial to students and helps to make them lifelong learners.
